The rain stopped today which gave me an opportunity to resume my work outside. Once a year in winter I'd prune my roses hard and clear most of my perenial bushes back to make ways for young new shoots in Spring.
Rose clippings are full of diseases which I'd throw out in the green bin but I also ended up with piles of green wastes from the perenial bushes like the catmints and other herbs I got in my backyard.
I could just throw all my green wastes away into the green bin but a better alternative is to turn them into green manure! I knew I made the right choice when I bought my mulching mower where it not only cut the grass but will also shred them into fine pieces. I'll love to see your roses when they are in bloom. I had a few rose bushes I plant in pots. Surprisingly, they bloom all the time. Probably these are hybrid. I remembered when I was a child, roses were very fussy plants. But I guess not anymore.. lol

helen: give it a go..if ur worry about the smell, put it as far as u can from the house but make sure u keep turning the compost heap so as to let it rot down quicker.

it works much better (the compost) if you indeed add some shit into it. If you can get loads fo cow dung or horse shit mix it in, and let it compost that way, it would be great.

hey, it looks just like my friend's garden, complete with the compost bin. and they added things like the skin of fruits and etc to speed up the process. awwww, you reminded me of them.

ah pek: yes i agree with u about the manure, manure like cow dung, horse dung, chicken poo all can mix in with the compost but not human waste lar coz of hygenic reasons..i dun have any cow maure to add unless i buy them which i dun want to! so just use whats left-overs from the garden & kitchen too!

pee should not be applied to plants directly coz it'd burn the roots! too strong but if let it age for a week b4 diluting with water, then apply to plants is full of nitrogen! but very smelly lah!
